How to Properly Care for Your Cavoodle

Buying a Cavoodle is an exciting adventure; they’re great family dogs that have a lot of love to offer.

However, there is also a lot that goes into their well-being. How do you care for your Cavoodle?

Buying the Cavoodle

The first step to care for your Cavoodle is ensuring that you are buying your puppy from a reputable breeder. There are lots of Cavoodle breeders in Australia, and many have been breeding Cavoodles for several years. Find a breeder that sits right with you and go through the purchasing process.

Make sure that you aren’t buying your Cavoodle too early. Puppies need to be with their mother for as long as 12 weeks to ensure they are properly weaned and socialized, not to mention have the required medical attention from the breeder themselves. If your new puppy ticks all these boxes, you’re well on your way to bringing home your new family member!

Get the right food for your Cavoodle

Cavoodles need different food depending on their needs. Unsurprisingly, puppies need different food from adults, and adults need different food from seniors. Because of this, it’s important to look at the food your pets needs. Do they need more protein in their diet? Perhaps more fiber? Additionally, your Cavoodle might be allergic to some food, which is also something to look out for.

The best way to determine what food is right for your Cavoodle is to go to your vet. They will be able to tell you what food is best for your Cavoodle’s current stage of life. While many dogs are fine with supermarket brand foods, sometimes that’s not what they need to stay healthy.

Train from an early age

One of the most important things to keep in mind when you care for your Cavoodle is training them. Cavoodles love to learn, and training them helps keep their mind active and their happiness high. They thrive on making their owners happy, and by training them, you are also teaching them discipline. It’s a win-win for both the dog and the owner.

Socialization also counts as training; take your dog on walks frequently to get them used to other dogs and people on the street. Going to a park is a great way for your puppy to meet new friends and get used to being in a crowd.

Otherwise, your dog may become skittish or even hostile towards other dogs or people. While Cavoodles are loving dogs, socialization is incredibly important and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Groom your Cavoodle

Another large part of care is grooming. Your Cavoodle has a very particular coat that combines the curl of a Poodle with the silkiness of a Cavalier King Charles. Because of this combination, it’s imperative that you brush it a couple of times a week to prevent mats from forming. A bath once or twice a week wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

As well, trimming your Cavoodle’s nails is a must to prevent them from growing out too long. Trimming their nails prevents pain and discomfort and, in some extreme cases, from the nails breaking off entirely or growing backward. Trim with the appropriate tools, and keep some stippling powder just in case.

When you properly care for your Cavoodle, you are contributing to a lifetime of love and happiness.

There are other ways to keep your Cavoodle happy as well, and care is just the start.
