Canberra has long had a reputation as one of the more dog-friendly cities in the country, with plenty of lakes and river spots to share with your pup around the ACT.
If you are after an outdoor adventure with your Cavoodle, here are some of the best dog-friendly beaches in Canberra and around the ACT. Rules can change, so check the local signage on arrival.
Lake Burley Griffin
This lake is a must for any Cavoodle owner living in or visiting Canberra. With a 40km shoreline, there is room for everyone to enjoy the outdoors. If your dog loves the water, head for the designated dog swimming area. It is a great spot for your Cavoodle to play and cool off on a warm day, and being popular with dog owners year round, it is perfect for a playdate too.
Uriarra Loop
The stretch along the Molonglo River is dotted with picnic tables, a walking trail and plenty of sandy river banks. It is a lovely place to walk your dog on the lead, and there are swimming holes along the way for a splash. Some are shallow enough for a dog that just wants to wet their feet.
Uriarra Crossing
This recreation area on the banks of the Murrumbidgee is a short drive from Canberra and one of the more enjoyable spots to take your Cavoodle. The sandy beaches are lovely and the water is usually just right. Pack a picnic and make a day of it, with plenty of trails and swimming spots to explore.
Lake Ginninderra
The trail around Lake Ginninderra is a great chance to spot some native wildlife and is perfect for a quiet walk with your dog on the lead. If you fancy a swim, head for the designated dog swimming area around Diddams Close Park, which also has an off-lead space where your Cavoodle can run free.
Yerrabi Pond
On the north side of Canberra, Yerrabi Pond is a favourite with dog owners. Your Cavoodle will love exploring the area around the water while you take in the views. It is great for families too, with playgrounds, picnic areas, barbecues and even a skate park, plus a designated dog swimming spot for a bit of water fun.
