Cavoodles are fantastic family dogs, but when you can’t be home all the time, what do you do?
Can a Cavoodle be left home alone? Now, it’s time to get the answer to this question.
Cavoodles are attention-seeking dogs
One of the biggest points for owning a Cavoodle is knowing that they crave your attention and validation. This trait can be concerning for some owners, especially if you plan to leave your Cavoodle alone for extended periods of time.
Thankfully, there is no reason to worry, as many Cavoodles can be left alone for long periods of time without issue. The trick is training and enforcing positive behaviors while you aren’t around.
Separation anxiety is stressful for everyone
One of the hurdles you may experience when leaving your Cavoodle alone for the day is separation anxiety. This is defined as extreme stress when away from their owner or handler, which can manifest in many different ways. Dogs with separation anxiety may become destructive, chewing, tearing, and scratching at everything within reach.
Treating separation anxiety is a whole separate task, and requires lots of patience from the owner. Teaching your Cavoodle that it’s safe to stay home alone often requires a lot of effort, but can be made easier with positive reinforcement, treats, and toys. Often, leaving behind things that smell like you can make the process a lot easier as well.
Leave them, or take them with you?
While it might be tempting to take your Cavoodle with you while you run errands, there are a number of reasons why this might not be the best idea. For starters, leaving your Cavoodle alone in your car might cause them even more stress, even if you use Tesla Dog Mode!
Of course, you can’t bring your Cavoodle inside wherever you go, either. It’s best to train them to behave while at home and wait for your return.
Unless, of course, you are going to the park.
Will my Cavoodle be okay at home alone?
Absolutely! Cavoodles are more than capable of staying home alone. Separation anxiety doesn’t affect every dog, and even if your Cavoodle has it, it’s not the end of the world. Training and positive reinforcement will allow you to safely leave the house without your Cavoodle. Toys, freshwater, and a comfortable place to lie should be more than sufficient for your Cavoodle’s needs while you go out.
Of course, when you return, ensure that you give your Cavoodle lots of love and affection. After all, you were gone all day! They missed you, and want you to know that they still love you, after all, that time.
Know your Cavoodle
Separation anxiety is pretty easy to spot, and catching it early will help you train them out of it for when they get older. Training is paramount, and there are many different methods to alleviate the symptoms of separation anxiety. One of them is bound to work for you.
Cavoodles are fantastic house dogs, even if you have to run out once in a while.
However, if you’re going to the park, bring your puppy along for a much needed walk!
